Newport Harbor Corporation Re-launches, Re-Brands and Renovates Boston’s Beloved Restaurant Brand
BOSTON, MA (April 16, 2015)—Aromas of Italy waft through the newly renovated space, glasses full of amaro clink while lively conversation floats through the air, and chefs engage with guests over antipasti at the new Papa Razzi Metro. Newport Harbor Corporation, which owns and operates eight stand-alone restaurant concepts in Rhode Island, has recently purchased Boston’s beloved Papa Razzi brand and has spent the past two years working to evolve the 25-year-old restaurant collection with an updated brand, a complete renovation, and a new menu featuring Papa Razzi classics as well as new flavors.
The debut of Papa Razzi Metro is slated to open at the end of April in Burlington, MA. The five existing locations in Wellesley, Concord, Boston, Framingham and Cranston, RI are projected to undergo similar rebranding efforts and be converted into Papa Razzi Metro concepts within the next two years. Papa Razzi Metro welcomes guests into a warm, inviting, vibrant urban-Italian setting, where the dishes are inspired by the people, places, and flavors of Italy. The Papa Razzi Metro team takes pride in producing meals with care and making every dining experience an exceptional one. Papa Razzi is a Boston classic and loyal guests will be pleased with the modernized version of their favorite restaurant. The food, design and concept continue to be welcoming and approachable, but the overall experience is elevated.
Papa Razzi Metro is focused around the concept “Be Italian,” which embraces the spirit of the Italian lifestyle right alongside the food. It is a place where the culinary team focuses on making everything from scratch, including pastas, dough, and cheeses. Culinary Arts Director Kevin DiLibero and Executive Chef Peter Gwilliam visited kitchens across the country from New York to California and embarked on a European sojourn in Italy while seeking inspiration for the new menu. Executive Pastry Chef Matthew Petersen makes all of Papa Razzi Metro’s desserts in-house and Beverage Director Shawn Westhoven has carefully curated a beverage program that is approachable with spirits native to Italy and lends itself to guests discovering new favorites.
Papa Razzi Metro will feature tantalizing small plates as well as creatively composed dishes that feature clean, crisp flavors and scratch cooking with a focus on homemade pastas, authentic Neapolitan pizzas, vegetables, meats, and seafood. DiLibero and Gwilliam trained under the VPN (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) and are abiding by the strict guidelines put forth by the VPN to ensure that the Neapolitan Pizza that comes out of the kitchen at Papa Razzi Metro is authentic. In addition, dishes also reflect New England, such as native fluke crudo and cast-iron mussels. The experience is whole-heartedly designed to make guests feel at home.
“In Italy, life starts at the table. It is where friends gather as family, where every dish is a display of love,” said Chef DiLibero. “Food is wonderfully simple and a reflection of where you live. That philosophy has come to life with the creation of Papa Razzi Metro.”
The 10,000-square-foot venue designed by Peter Niemitz has undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation that began last fall and culminates this month. The space now boasts a nine-seat Salumi Bar featuring Italian salumi, formaggi, verdure and antipasti offered atop a stunning white marble bar. Talented chefs will interact with guests while slicing meats and composing dishes. The main dining room, Il Centro, is suitable for any occasion from coffee rituals to business lunches to family dinners. The Peninsula Bar will be stacked with spirits from the Old World as well as Westhoven’s signature creations, including housemade figcello and limoncello. The expansive outdoor dining area, La Terrazza, will offer an additional bar and is partially covered for an extended al fresco dining season. There will also be a second floor with two options for private dining offering state-of-the-art amenities and technology.
