Papa Razzi Metro

OUR STORY: Papa Razzi first opened its doors downtown on Dartmouth Street in 1989. The sunken space below sidewalk level was dark but brimming with passion, promise, and hospitality. An inspired team, led by famed restaurateur Charles Sarkis, wanted to bring a new style of Italian cooking to the East Coast. At a time when American-Italian cuisine was synonymous with heavy marinara, Papa Razzi committed to cooking only with light sauces and fresh ingredients. Where other Italian eateries’ sauces simmered for hours before serving, here everything was made to order, just how the guest requested. Breads were baked in-house daily, wood-fired ovens churned out rustic flavors, and each pasta dish was served to al dente perfection. Guests loved the fresh take on culinary favorites; a New England institution was born.

Since then, Papa Razzi has grown to six locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It is poised for future growth and success with hospitality leader Newport Harbor at the helm. A BOSTON CLASSIC REDEFINED: A first of its kind, Papa Razzi Metro is a departure from the revered and iconic regional restaurant concept, and is designed to pay homage to the simple, sweet life suggestive in Italian philosophy. Focusing on high-quality, simple ingredients sourced both locally and from Italy, each dish is united through classic cooking techniques to create an exceptional experience on the plate. Paired with gracious service, Metro’s menu will take guests on a culinary tour through Italy, with its salumi bar, housemade pastas, and authentic Neapolitan-style pizza made by a certified Pizzaiolo, creating an authentically Italian dining experience to be shared among friends and family.

MENU STYLE: The food at Metro will be inspired by both Italian tradition and New England sensibilities. Philosophically, the style of cooking will weave together the influences of both – employing techniques and presentations familiar to those who love traditional Italian cuisine, but equally appreciative in the emphasis of local people, ingredients, products and artisans. In its essence, our food will be easily understood, but surprising in its depth and thoughtfulness.


WINE: Wine selections from every corner of the country, representing more than 30 varietals, are available by the half glass to encourage our guests to be adventurous with this very diverse collection. Wine is a part of nearly every meal in Italy – an integral part of life – and does not have the pretense and formality that we sometimes assign it here in the United States.
